ZZ Top

Then: Formed in 1970 by members of rival bands Moving Sidewalks and the American Blues, Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard put El Paso on the musical map with ZZ Top. A Top 20 hit "Tush", a few minor hits and even a greatest hits package in 1977 came their way. But it was a change away from their blues/rock style to rock/synth for 1983's Eliminator ("Legs", "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Sharp Dressed Man") that made them notoriety (ok, maybe the long beards and the car helped). They successfully followed-up with 1985's Afterburner ("Sleeping Bag", "Stages", "Rough Boy" and "Velcro Fly").

Now: In 1990 after a 5 year hiatus, the band came back with Recycler but after one hit "Doubleback" (helped by it's use and their appearance in Back To The Future III) things seemed to fizzle. A new Greatest Hits followed along with two albums in 1994 (Antenna and One Foot In The Blues - a compilation of earlier material). It seems the compilation brought the band back to their blues roots and 1996's Rhythmeen was the perfect time for it. In 1999, they released XXX and have been touring since.
