| Tears For Fears Then: Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal formed Tears For Fears in 1981 from the ashes of would-be-popsters Graduate. After the British act's home success of their first album The Hurting (3 top ten hits), not many would suspect worldwide appeal looming. Songs From The Big Chair duplicated their dominance in America with two U.S. #1 hits "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and "Shout." After some time off they returned in 1989 to the American charts at #2 with "Sowing The Seeds Of Love." Separation in the duo's direction was showing during the recording of the album The Seeds Of Love and became their undoing. Now: Roland kept the name and has up to now recorded two albums and landed a US #25 hit with "Break It Down Again". Curt recorded a solo album Soul On Board and missing the functionality of a band and created Mayfield (said to be taken from the pun Curt-is Mayfield). Smith has also formed his own record company. Roland has new material due out under the Tears For Fears name. Smith also has new solo material coming. It looks like time has mended old wounds and it has been reported that the two are writing together again. |
