Sigue Sigue Sputnik
Then: There was a man with a plan and his name was Tony James.. The plan was to make a new and exciting
group composed of people that had no (or little) musical experience; they were selected on 'star-potential'!. An
ultra glamorous group that was all about the future; the Fifth Generation Of Rock 'N Roll! And so it happened..
After many years (1981-1985) of rehearsing and developing, Sigue Sigue Sputnik grew into a phenomenon that still
gets people upset easily. And even though their ideas, songs, looks and gigs were pretty, innovative, bright and
exciting; the music press liked you to believe SSS was nothing but an unsuccessful hyped group (1985/86), gift
wrapped to be unwrapped but with no real content. And so that IS what we believe nowadays. Which eventually lead
to their kind off split-up mid 1989. Main SSS hits, that stood the test of time: "Love Missile F1-11"
/ "21st Century Boy" / "Success" / "Dancerama". Albums: Flaunt It (1986), Dress For
Excess (1989) and The First Generation (1991). Albums all released again and again.. Apparently there's still plenty
of people interested!?!
Now: Behold! Since mid 1997, Sigue Sigue is 'back' minus the two drummers and minus Yana Yaya, their special
FX lady. This time no media manipulation, no hypes, no hairspray, no fleece the world. SSS is nowadays based on
the WWW, and slowly developing NEW exciting SSStuff: CDs, gigs, videos, ideas. Back to the roots of the early days,
a much rawer sound than the first two albums. Still looking wild, but with a re-scheduled masterplan. Album release:
The Ultimate 12" Collection (1998).. In the pipeline: 'Electronic Rock And Roll' (1999), The Singles Collection
(1999), "Ray Of Light" on the Virgin Voices Madonna tribute #2. Also expect gigs, tv, etc...
