Icehouse

Then: Formed in Sydney during late 1977 as The Flowers, Iva Davies and Keith Welsh went through many bandmates and built a reputation as an impressive live act. They settled the line-up with Anthony Smith on keyboards and John Lloyd on drums. The debut album in 1980 was titled Icehouse and several songs hovered around the Australian Top 40 including "Can't Help Myself". Several other bands in Britain and the U.S. already had The Flowers as a moniker so for legal reasons they opted to go with the title of their first album. For the next ten years only a further four studio albums and a "best of" compilation were released. 1987's Man Of Colours broke them into the U.S. charts with two Top 20 hits "Crazy" and "Electric Blue". Mainstream success dangled in front of them. Then, almost on the tenth anniversary of the Icehouse release came the sixth studio album, Code Blue.

Now: A label dispute kept the band on hold for awhile with a cd title Code Blue gathering dust waiting for release. After getting a new contract they released Code Blue, re-released collections of early material, 1993's Big Wheel album, 1995's Berlin Tapes (them covering the songs of Bowie, Psychadelic Furs, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, The Cure and others) and 1997's remixes of "Hey, Little Girl". A remix of "Into The Wild" made it onto the film Space Jam but not onto the soundtrack. Word has it that new material is expected from the band soon.
