| Charlie Dore Then: Born and raised in London, Dore went to spent most of her energy on acting. She went to drama school, acted in a Newcastle repertory company and even showed up on the TV show "Rainbow" for awhile. But music called to her. Starting off in 1977 with a band called Prairie Oyster that played a what could be considered country music in a time when punk-rock was in. Island Records was interested in signing the act but the instability of their line-up and disolution of the band pushed them to sign only Charlie Dore. Her first album, Where To Now?, was released in 1979. The track "Pilot Of The Airwaves" took literal flight to the U.S. #13 spot on the charts in 1980. Another aircraft oriented tune "Fear Of Flying" was released but did little. A change to Chrysalis and a new musical direction (easy listening) didn't help her next album, 1981's Listen. Dore accepted the dissapointment and went back to acting. She co-starred with Tim Curry and Jonathan Pryce in The Ploughman's Lunch in 1984. Then she spent some time on several British television shows including South Of The Border and Hard Cases. Now: As the 80's ended, Charlie joined the comedy team Dogs On Holiday who have been consistently performing act in London. But she never truely gave up on music. She would write material for Celine Dion, Jimmy Nail and Sheena Easton. Things did change in 1995 when Dore came back to recording and released Things Change. |
