| Buggles Then: Studio musicians Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes met in 1977 in a backing group for Tina Charles. Pooling their talents and funds under the name Buggles they issued their prophetic debut single "Video Killed The Radio Star." Not only would this be the video used to launch the MTV network but it would also be Island Records first #1 single. The duo would later release the album The Plastic Age with the singles "Clean, Clean" and "Elstree" but remained a studio only group. In the summer of 1980 they were invited to join Yes, replacing Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. The unlikely union lasted til the end of the year. Downes then departed to form Asia. Horn went and started ZTT Records which would sign and produce the band Art Of Noise. Now: Downes is still with Asia and are still releasing material. Horn's ZTT Records is still doing well especially with the artist Seal. |
