| Buckner & Garcia Then: The union of these two Akron musicians, Jerry Buckner & Gary Garcia, almost never happened. It was through several different bands that they worked in that they struck up a songwriting/production partnership. After relocating to Atlanta, they wrote jingles, worked odd jobs, and played gigs to support their songwriting. At this time they released the country/gospel record Footprints In The Sand, produced the "WKRP In Cincinnati" record and had their first chart hit with "Merry Christmas In The NFL" with Willis "The Guard" on vocals. During their heavy workload they found themselves at a local bar with a funny little game in there called Pac-Man. The rest is history. The song "Pac-Man Fever" hit #9 on the Billboard charts. The full album achieved success also with other tracks paying homage to Defender, Donkey Kong, and Frogger. After their record company shelved the song "E.T. I Love You" to keep it from knocking Neil Diamond's "Heartlight" (also about the movie E.T.) off the charts, they became understandably disenchanted with the industry. Now: Jerry Buckner got into radio work doing character voices and still works with Gary Garcia writing new songs. If we ever see them, who knows. But after many voices have demanded a rerelease of the Pac Man Fever album, they have digitally remastered all the tracks. The album can be ordered at www.bucknergarcia.com |
