Bow Wow Wow

Then: The brainchild of ex-Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, Bow Wow Wow were 3 of Adam's ex-Ants (David Barbe, Matthew Ashman, Leigh Gorman) and a 14 year-old Burmese girl McLaren had discovered and renamed Annabella Lu Win. They debuted with "C30, C60, C90, Go" to little success. It was after a hectic year and a move to RCA Records that they scored their first UK Top 10 hit with "Go Wild In The Country." It was their remake of the Strangelove's "I Want Candy" that secured their place in history. The song also made the Top 10, didn't make a dent in the US Top 40 but received heavy video play on MTV. McLaren felt a struggle to control the original concept of the band and went so far as to include a second vocalist Lietenant Lush (Boy George) that never worked out. The band dissolved in 1983. Annabella's 1985 attempt at a solo career also failed.

Now: After suffering complications from diabetes, Ashman died. The band reformed in late 1998 and in 1999 announced work on a new album.
