Book Of Love

Then: Art students Susan Ottoviano and Jade Lee frequented dance clubs, witnessing all sorts of bands featuring non-musicians. Figuring that they could do that too, they hooked up with fellow art student Ted Ottoviano (Susan and Ted are not related), moved to New York (where Ted was from) and formed Book Of Love. They wanted a fourth member for Book Of Love and recruited Ted's schoolmate Lauren Roselli. They wrote songs for awhile before getting a record deal and performing live. Their first big dance club hit was "Boy" and that was followed by "I Touch Roses." They toured extensively (notably on Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration" tour) in support of their first album "Book Of Love" before recording the follow-up, "Lullaby." The AIDS anthem "Pretty Boys And Pretty Girls" from "Lullaby" was another big dance hit for the band. Their third album was "Candy Carol" and generated yet another dance hit "Alice Everyday." The album "Lovebubble" followed that and featured the now-gay club classic "Boy Pop." During Book Of Love's dance club reign, Lauren took time out to appear in two Jonathon Demme movies: "The Silence Of The Lambs" and "Philadelphia." (She had small speaking roles in both films.) Ted also had a side project called Doubleplusgood. They released two singles: "Conga Te" and "The Winding Song." A Doubleplusgood album was planned, but was never released.

Now: Ted has done production and remix work for The Heads (Talking Heads without David Byrne) and Fleetwood Mac (He remixed their "Landslide" single.) He has also done music production for fashion shows. Susan is a sometimes contributing writer to OUT magazine. A hits collection has been in the works for sometime now. A new song, "Try" was featured on a Giorgio Moroder Tribute compilation. "I Touch Roses" was featured in the movie American Psycho, but is not featured on the movie soundtrack.
