| The Beloved Then: Formed in London during the mid to late 80's, the bands Camberwell and Journey Through released several singles that just never seemed to find the right audience. They were mainly a rock band that had trouble shaking the "sounds like New Order" tag to their music. In 1986, the Beloved issued their first single, "This Means War;" a series of releases (including the EP Happy Now, the double A-sided single "Surprise Me"/"Heavy Dancing," and the 1987 LP Where It Is) followed, but none garnered any significant critical or commercial success. The band split in half leaving Jon Marsh and keyboardist Steve Waddington. The new unit was focused on dance music and with the singles "The Sun Risting and international hit single "Hello" off the release of Happiness they were on their way. Now: After the first album, The Beloved also split in half when Waddington departed. The vacancy was filled by Jon's wife Helena. Their 1993 album Conscience provided their biggest hit to date (UK Top 20 hit) with "Sweet Harmony" which got plenty of MTV airplay. Three years later another album entitled X was released with little fanfare. One track "Deliver Me" did gain a fan in Sarah Brightman who included her rendition on her album Eden. Currently a remix hits album is in the works. |
