| Belle Stars Then: Sometimes you change your image when you split from a band. The Belle Stars definately did. After leaving a Two-Tone/ska influenced band this all-female British outfit to go classic pop as if they belonged along side the Shirelles. Comprised of Jennie McKeown (bass), Miranda Joyce (saxophone), Sarah-Jane Owen (guitar) and Judy Parsons (drums); they signed with Stiff Records in 1981. The next year they released a self titled album with remakes of Shirley Ellis' "The Clapping Song" (UK Top 20) and the Dixie Cups' "Iko Iko" as singles along with their own "Sign Of The Times" (UK Top 20). But continued success never occurred and they split up. It was in 1989 when they achieved their greatest success. Their version of "Iko Iko" appeared on the soundtrack to Rain Man with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise that when rereleased as a single achieved a Billboard #14 charting. Now: Missing In Action |
