Adam Ant
Then: Adam & The Ants was started by one Stewart Leslie Goddard who transformed into one Adam Ant.
The Ants went from rather punkish sound to true Antmusic over the span of 5 years (1977-1981). They were misunderstood
by the press yet, loved by the fans. Teenybopper-status in 1980/81 with innovative poppy hits such as "Dog
Eat Dog" / "Antmusic" / "Stand & Deliver" / "Prince Charming". Then in 1982
Adam took guitarist/co-songwriter Marco Pirroni and went solo. They had tons of success as well as hits in U.K.
and U.S. ("Goody Two Shoes" / "Friend Or Foe" / "Puss 'N Boots", etc.), but after
a few years only the die-hard fans were left and success was now named Culture Club and Frankie Goes to Hollywood
and what have you. Adam turned to sometimes decent acting in mostly crappy B-movies/television series from say
1985-1989.
Now: Adam returned in 1990 with a very weak album named Manners And Physique that spawned another hit, "Room
At The Top". Since then there has been one more album released (as well as one great album named Persuasion
that was never officially released) named Wonderful, which featured a so-called mature sound which gave him the
hit single "Wonderful". But when Ant & Pirroni fell ill at the 1995 U.S. tour and had to cancel it
all, they faded into obscurity again. Numerous re-releases (Ant(s) regular albums, and run-of-the-mill greatest
hits packages) flooded the market the last 7 years. Adam is apparently still without a record contract but has
recorded new music. Always scheduled but still unreleased is the infamous AntBox 2000, a goodies-box jam-packed
with the hits as well as various demos and live stuff and other rare gems like (assumably) a video and book(let).
It is said to be released later in 1999! Adam is at the moment acting once again, including a guest role on La
Femme Nikita and in the forthcoming VH1 movie Sweetwater, about a fictional band who faded into obscurity after
playing Woodstock.
