The 9 year marriage between Janet Jackson and songwriter/director Rene Elizondo that they kept from the public is coming to an end. Elizondo, who co-wrote 37 of Jackson's songs and directed many of the videos, filed for divorce this week. "It pains me greatly that despite my sincere efforts, my marriage to Rene did not work out." said Jackson. The couple married in March of 1991.

Clips up to 3 minutes in length of Madonna's album-in-progress, Music, have made it onto fan Web sites where copies of those are being traded on Napster. Warner Bros. Records has issued a warning that civil and criminal prosecution is waiting for any site that does not remove the samples. The album is looking at a release in September or October right after the expected due date for Madonna's second child. The title track is expected to be released as a single during the summer but may be out earlier because of recent events. In the meantime, Madonna had royal dinner with Prince Charles this week along with several other guests including former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler. The dinner was to raise money for anti-drug charities.

77 year-old Latin jazz bandleader, Tito Puente, died from complications during heart surgery at New York University Medical Center on Wednesday night. The prolific Puente had been performing and recording for more than 60 years helping popularize the cha-cha and mambo. Puente leaves us having recorded more than 100 albums and winning 5 Grammy awards.

Duran Duran has recorded its latest single, "Someone Else Not Me," in Spanish and French. What they will do with the versions is a great question. Some statements say that both versions or just the Spanish version will be included on the upcoming album along with the other 12 tracks. Pop Trash is due in stores June 13th. The video for "Someone Else Not Me" debuted at #1 on MTV Italy this week. Duran Duran will be making appearances on The Tonight Show - June 15th and The View - June 19th.

Actor/singer Patrick Swayze made an emergency landing on an Arizona roadway yesterday. Federal Aviation Administration officials report that the plane experienced cabin-pressure problems and was forced to land. The Dirty Dancing star was flying from Van Nuys, CA to North Las Vegas. Swayze and his two dogs escaped unharmed while his Cessna suffered damage to the right wing.

Willie Nelson's upcoming release, Me And The Drummer, is his first enhanced CD that allows fans to view excerpts of a video about the country legend's early life, interviews with friends of Willie's and Farm Aid footage.

Van Halen's official Web site states that Eddie Van Halen began prevention treatment for cancer and that he does not have cancer nor has he gone under the knife. According to M.D. Anderson doctors, Eddie is part of an outpatient clinical trial to prevent cancer.

What does a country superstar do when a surprise hit returns him to the top of the charts after a long vacation? Bring the supporting vocalists back to record on a new album. Kenny Rogers reteams with "Buy Me A Rose" co-vocalists Alison Krauss and Billy Dean. Which looks to have started a stampede to work with Rogers as Diamond Rio, Steve Wariner, Collin Raye and Suzy Bogguss are all in on the new album due out in September.

Michael Jackson is now a key investor and co-owner of an entertainment site, HollywoodTicket.com. "The Internet allows us to bring fans together with top talent in creating new forms of entertainment that provide fun, adventure and meaningful interactive experiences for everyone," Jackson said in a prepared statement. The site plans to offer contests such as the "Dream Sweepstakes," where fans can win backstage passes to their favorite concerts and premieres or even win a lunch with their favorite celebrities.

The legal battle over "who gets what" from Michael Hutchence's estate is over. Lawyers agreed that half the estate will go to his daughter, Hiraani Tiger Lily, while the remainder will be split equally between: girlfriend Paula Yates, Hutchence's mother, half-sister, father and brother. Specific terms were not released and remain confidential.

Well, Tommy Lee finished his 5 days in jail and has an extended probation to go with. But interestingly, the drink that broke his probation was a glass of champagne with Pamela Anderson Lee on New Year's Eve. She just decided to report the violation at a later date.

It's not hard to accept $270,000 from the Australian government. Joe Cocker happily did that when they asked to use his version of "Unchain My Heart." That was until he found out that it was being used in advertising to promote a 10% "goods and services" tax. He has quickly demanded that his name be erased from all advertising promoting the tax and stated that he never intended to have the song used for politically.

You won't see many sampling lawsuits coming from Prince's corner. He's actually asking for it by selling a 7 disc collection of samples called the Newfunk Sampling CD Series that he's categorized and stamped his approval on. The only negative? The one-time payment of $700 for the cd collection with no royalties to pay to the "artist" in the future.
