Ace Show Biz reports that Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder has been sued in New York's Manhattan federal court by Gordon Peterson over the version of Peterson's song, "Hard Sun," Vedder recorded for Sean Penn's 2007 film Into The Wild.  Peterson originally wrote the song in 1987 and claims "Vedder altered certain key lyrics of 'Hard Sun'... eroding the integrity of the composition."

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently told CNN that his lack of ear protection during most of the 35 years he's been playing rock music has been the cause of his hearing loss and developing tinnitus.  At first it was barely perceptible but during a concert tour in 1988 the ringing in his ears continued while he slept.  "I try to point out to younger kids... once your hearing is gone, it's gone, and there's no real remedy."

Michael Jackson's 1983 "Thriller" video has been inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.  It is the first music video to be named to the registry.  According to Steve Leggett of the board, they had considered adding it in past years, but following Jackson's death, the time was right.  The 525 films in the registry have been deemed "works of enduring importance to American culture."  Meanwhile, director Spike Lee has premiered the official video for Jackson's posthumous single, "This Is It."

Status Quo members Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi have been honored with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II.  Status Quo have scored over 60 chart hits in the U.K.

Neil Young has been given the Order of Canada by Queen Elizabeth II as part of her New Year honors "for his contributions as one of Canada's greatest musical talents whose unique voice and iconic songs have influenced generations of musicians, and for his support of educational and charitable organizations."

Michael Jackson's This Is It soundtrack fell 2 places to #13 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.  Glee Cast's Glee: Season One: The Music Volume 2 dropped 6 spots to #16.  Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel soundtrack climbed 10 places to #20.  Glee Cast's Glee: Season One: The Music Volume 1 dropped 7 spots to #21.  Sting's If On A Winter's Night... climbed a place to #25.  Michael Jackson's Number Ones held steady at #32.

Janet Jackson's "Make Me" climbed 3 spots to regain the #1 spot on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart.

Rod Stewart's Soulbook retains the #13 spot on the U.K. Albums chart.  Queen's Absolute Greatest fell 2 places to #14.  Michael Jackson's This Is It soundtrack held steady at #16.  Bette Midler's The Best Bette climbed a spot to #22.  Fleetwood Mac's The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac fell 2 places to #23.  Foo Fighters' Greatest Hits dropped 3 spots to #29.  UB40's Best Of Labour Of Love climbed a place to #32.  Rod Stewart's Some Guys Have All The Luck dropped 2 spots to #36.  Madonna's Celebration climbed a place to #39.

Ministry have a new tour documentary film due out in the summer entitled Fix.  Members of Ministry, Motorhead, Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction, Skinny Puppy, the Melvins, Dead Kennedys, Amen and The Jesus Lizards make appearances.

Duran Duran's 11-track performance on Nov. 4th, 1982 for BBC In Concert has been made available via iTunes and Amazon MP3.

Moev have reunited with legendary producer John Fryer to work on their upcoming album, Ventilation.  Fryer (who has worked with Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Love And Rockets, Cocteau Twins, Clan of Xymox and Wire) last worked with the band in 1991 on Head Down.

According to Suicidal Tendencies, their new DVD, Live At The Olympic Auditorium, will be released on Jan. 27th.  That will lead the way for releases next year.  "We're real excited about all the projects, collaborations and cds which will be out this year."

Germany's No More have released, "Sunday Mitternacht/A Rose Is A Rose" as a double A-sided single via their new label Rent A Dog.  It can be ordered at www.that-noise.de on green vinyl and a download version becomes available on Jan. 15th.  Their new album, Midnight People & Lo-Life Stars, is due out in March.

Soundgarden have announced they will reunite this year and have launched their new Web site www.SoundgardenWorld.com.  "The 12 year break is over and school is back in session."

John Waite plans to independently release his new live album, In Real Time, via No Brakes Records this month.  He also is working with Kyle Cook of Matchbox Twenty on material for his new studio album.

The Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County, a horror musical created by John Mellencamp and Stephen King, debuts in Atlanta in September.  Both will be in the cast and plans are to release a book with 3-CDs (two of which featuring the whole show and one, a soundtrack, featuring guest appearances by Elvis Costello and Kris Kristofferson.)

Exodus have titled their ninth studio album Exhibit B: The Human Condition which will be released in the spring.

According to Chris Stein of Blondie, the band "are putting the album to sleep, last few little bits tonight."  The group have been working on and off in the studio since October.

Kiss have released a new 27-track double-CD set, Best Of Kiss Alive 35, which was recorded in 21 locations during their 2009 North American tour.

Vile Evils will release their debut album, Vive le VileEvil, via dPulse recordings on Mar. 16th on CD and as a digital download.  The first single from the album will be, "Demon," due out on Feb. 24th.  The former Pop Will Eat Itself members recently changed their name from Vileevils to Vile Evils "due to confusion by many including iTunes."

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has announced that some new material by NIN is on the way for the new year as well as "something else that isn't nine inch nails."  "I am in a state of rediscovery and reinvention that feels unfamiliar, unsure and exactly what I need."

Richard Thompson's 6-city West Coast tour starting Feb. 11th will be recorded for a live album of all new material.

Klaus Meine of the Scorpions, Kiss' Eric Singer, Helloween's Michael Kiske, Magnum's Bob Catley and Bruce Kulick are among the musicians appearing on the next Avantasia project due out in April.

"When We Were Angels," a new song recorded by Ramones drummer Marky Ramone and former Misfits vocalist Michale Graves, will be released via iTunes this month.

Former Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party guitarist Rowland S. Howard, 50, passed away in Melbourne, Australia on Dec. 30th.  Howard had been battling with liver cancer and was awaiting a liver transplant but it did not come in time.  Former bandmate Nick Cave had this to say about the guitarist:  "This is very sad news.  Rowland was Australia's most unique, gifted and uncompromising guitarist.  He was also a good friend.  He will be missed by many."  During the 1980s, he performed on albums by The Birthday Party, Einsturzende Neubauten, Fad Gadget, Nick Cave, Jeremy Gluck, Lydia Lunch, Nikki Sudden, Barry Adamson as well as the Dogs In Space soundtrack and Wings Of Desire soundtrack.
